Julie Derrick

Julie Derrick is a National Leader in Education, presently Headteacher at Invicta Grammar School and CEO of Valley Invicta Academies Trust.  She has been Headteacher for 6 years. Julie is an Advanced Skills Teacher of Business. She started her career with the Trust in 2004 by leading the Business and Enterprise Specialism as Assistant Headteacher.  Along with teaching GCSE, A Level Business Studies and Economics, Julie assumed responsibility as Deputy Head for Curriculum, Data Management, Enrichment, Gifted and Talented, and Assessment and Reporting.
As Headteacher, Julie’s key focus is to ensure that Invicta is an inspirational place to work and learn for both students and staff.  She has developed a school with a strong family ethos, where each girl encounters stimulating and intellectual challenges, whilst receiving the very best care and guidance.  This ensures all students are successful in a happy, enriched environment – one where they learn to the best of their ability, where staff focus solely on students’ individual needs; building their confidence and self-esteem and ensuring days at school are filled with enjoyment and challenge.
Invicta has earned a reputation for success.   Under Julie’s leadership the school has consistently achieved 70+% A*/B grades at A Level and 60% A*/A at GCSE.  Our academic record is outstanding with one of the highest Value Added figures for schools in Kent and nationally; this year, achieving as Progress 8 score of +0.76.
Julie has been Joint-Chief Executive of Valley Invicta Academies Trust (VIAT) for 2 years. She believes whole-heartedly in cross phase education, having responsibility across the Trust for Invicta Grammar School and 5 primary schools.  Julie has developed a World Class ambition to help students secure places at the best universities both in the UK and abroad.  This ambition ensures that excellence underpins every aspect of school life; not least in the teaching provision and our school’s facilities; largely supported by the freedoms of being an Academy.  Great emphasis is placed on strong subject teaching and the Trust’s success is demonstrated by the consistent oversubscription numbers of our schools.  Her philosophy is firmly that ‘our children only get one chance in their education, and that they therefore deserve the best’.
